Advancement of Chiropractic in British Columbia

"Will our philosophy guide our growth as a profession or will we be swallowed by the therapeutic style of allopaths?"  Fred Barge, Chiropractor

A Paradigm Shift

An interesting shift is occurring in British Columbia concerning chiropractors.  Recently graduated chiropractors, especially those who attended schools in the States, have noticed a lack of support for philosophical chiropractic and the need for changes in regulations to keep up with the growing demand for wellness care by the public in a competitive market.  Cutting edge trends are taking place in chiropractic geared towards wellness including; techniques, science, advertising, products and ideas - most or all of which are not supported by the current regulations set forth by the British Columbia College of Chiropractors.  Looking at the strength of chiropractic in cutting edge states like California, Arizona, Florida, New York, Iowa and the provinces of Ontario, Alberta and Quebec one might expect British Columbia and it's West-Coast "alternative" lifestyle to be paving the way of wellness care along with California, but this is not happening.  The problem is we can't embrace the new paradigm without letting go of the old.  This new paradigm (wellness) is a principle which has been present all along but not at the forefront in B.C. as it is now.  Unfortunately, some of the people following the old paradigm (medical model/mechanistic) usually go to their graves with their faith unshaken.  Even when presented with overwhelming evidence supporting the new paradigm (open concept, Network Spinal Analysis, advertising and marketing opportunities), they stubbornly stick with the old but familiar paradigm.  So, recently graduated chiropractors and chiropractors practicing for many years are joining forces, bringing new ideas, changes and strength and support for Wellness Chiropractic.  Regardless of which paradigm you support, change is needed in British Columbia to provide better chiropractic to the public.

Supporting Vitalistic Chiropractors in British Columbia

ACBC is a diversified group of chiropractors, comprising of upper cervical, tonal, traditional (osseous) and instrumental techniques.  However, two uniting factors bring this group together - philosophy and their love for chiropractic.  Currently, there is one association in British Columbia (British Columbia Chiropractic Association) and one national association in Canada (Canadian Chiropractic Association).  Both associations lack the support a principled chiropractor looks for (changes in by-laws, scope of practice, approved techniques, advertising, payment options) in order to firstly, serve chiropractic at a high level to the public and secondly, to survive and flourish as a business.  Wellness is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and it is of our opinion the British Columbia College of Chiropractors is not representing our wellness based profession appropriately.  ACBC caters to principled chiropractors and champions the movement towards a Scope and Act in B.C. that allows and affords principled chiropractors every opportunity to be successful.
